Agriculture Minister Czesław Siekierski does not yet know whether he will meet the farmers protesting in Warsaw. However, he called for the demonstration to be as disruptive as possible for the residents of the capital. “I am convinced that the protesting farmers will do everything to ensure that this protest, this meeting, does not pose a significant obstacle,” Siekierski said on Polish Radio’s program 1. In Warsaw, a large farmers’ protest will start at 11 a.m. in front of the Sejm, but without the participation of heavy machinery.
Protesters will gather in the capital at Defilad Square 11. From there they will walk through the following streets: Emilii Plater, Aleje Jerozolimskie, Rondo de Gaulle, Nowy Świat, Trzech Krzyży Square to Wiejska in front of the building of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. They then march along Piękna Street and Aleje Ujazdowskie in front of the Prime Minister’s seat. Warsaw City Hall announced that streets along the demonstration route would be closed and traffic diverted.

They demand a response from the government
The demands of Polish farmers include: abandoning the Green Deal, limiting the inflow of agri-food products from Ukraine and improving the profitability of agricultural production. Min. Czesław Siekierski appealed to the demonstrators to try not to make life difficult for the residents of Warsaw.
I am convinced that the protesting farmers will do everything they can to ensure that this protest, this meeting, does not cause any major inconvenience to the people of Warsaw. At the same time, I apologize to the residents of Warsaw for these inconveniences
– said the Minister of Agriculture in the Polish radio program 1.
Asked if he would meet protesting farmers on Tuesday, he said: “Probably.”
I speak constantly, even yesterday by telephone, when I returned from Brussels, with many representatives of the protesting circles. I also spoke to demonstrators in Brussels yesterday. Mainly farmers from Belgium participated, but there were also representatives from Spain, Italy, France and other countries
– said Siekierski, adding that it was an international protest.

Protests in Europe
Peasant protests have been going on in Poland and Europe for several days. On Monday, farmers in Belgium’s capital blocked the European Quarter with hundreds of tractors. Some demonstrators clashed with police. Minister Siekierski said that a meeting with representatives of protesting farmers took place yesterday during the Brussels meeting of the EU Council of Ministers of Agriculture. According to him, the influx of agricultural products from Ukraine has not only made production unprofitable in Poland, but farmers in other EU countries are also starting to feel this.
Certain rules should be introduced in the field of trade between Ukraine and the European Union, especially with Poland. Poles, Poles, villagers, farmers – we have all helped Ukraine, Ukrainians and we want to continue to do so. But it is necessary to distinguish between humanitarian aid and military aid and matters related to economic conditions, and to trade exchanges, which should take place on the basis of rational, normal principles, in accordance with the principles of the market and economy .
– Siekierski said this on Monday at a press conference in Brussels. According to him, farmers should be financially supported because through no fault of their own they have incurred the costs of the Green Deal and opening it up to imports from outside the EU. The minister admitted that the EC imposed excessive, irrational and expensive demands on the Green Deal, which actually led to the bankruptcy of many farms.
This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t work to defend the climate, we just have to do it in a different way. (…) The EC must verify its plans”
– added Siekierski.

Immediate embargo
Former bonus Mateusz Morawiecki appealed to the government of Donald Tusk
for the immediate introduction of an embargo on food from Ukraine.
Embargo is a necessity. They must be introduced without fear of Brussels. Farmers are waiting. Poles are waiting
– said Mateusz Morawicki in a recording on social media. Morawiecki asked the government to act quickly and abandon the idea of unblocking the border “by force.”
Including border crossings with Ukraine on the list of critical infrastructure is nothing more than an escalation
– Morawiecki emphasized.
