It is important that Ukraine maintains its alliance with Poland, but if no agreement is found to resolve the border dispute, Kiev will defend its interests, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday.
It is simply unfair to use Ukraine as pressure on the European institutions. That’s what I’m talking about. I believe that the Prime Ministers (of Ukraine and Poland – PAP) will find appropriate solutions. As President, I simply say openly that it is very important for us to maintain the alliance with Poland. But if solutions are not found, we will protect our business
– said the head of the Ukrainian state.
Zelensky will appear on Sunday at a press conference he convened during the ‘Ukraine’. 2024″, a summary of two years of defending Ukraine against the Russian invasion.
The President of Ukraine announced that he maintains “working relations” with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Donald Tusk, and President Andrzej Duda.
I have been saying since April last year that this (agricultural trade) is a political issue. Initially, even our Ukrainian society and some media criticized me for such rhetoric. I was absolutely right, and today the European Commission confirms this. I said that no election in Poland, no team that will come, will change this vector. This is a political vector
– he said.
Zelensky judged that the dispute with Ukraine is a consequence of the internal political struggle in Poland.
Today it is very clear that there is an internal struggle going on in Poland. But I would like to say that from the very beginning we were grateful to Polish society. And that is a fact. And I wouldn’t want politicians to do that
– he pointed out.
The President of Ukraine expressed his belief that the border that exists between his country and Poland is not a border between societies.
People are smart there. They will understand. Just as our people realized what was happening
Zelensky said.
Podolak: Ukraine and Poland will reach an agreement on border protests
Ukraine and Poland will reach an agreement on the border protests, Mykhailo Podolak, adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, told PAP on Sunday. This situation has no impact on our mutual relations, he emphasized.
This issue does not affect our relations, because we understand everything that is happening politically in Poland. I mean, we understand why there are protests, but not just in Poland. These protests are taking place across Europe, in France and Germany
– he declared.
Podolak noted that farmers are opposing the EU Green Deal through protests.
These protests are making farmers say they don’t want the Green Deal, they don’t want changes in agricultural subsidies. Again, this is not about bilateral relations between Ukraine and Poland. By the way, the President of Ukraine continues to talk about this
– he said.
Zelensky’s adviser assured that the Ukrainian side understands the economic component of the protests and said Kiev is ready to discuss this with Warsaw and Brussels.
We are ready to participate directly in such discussions because we currently do not exert competitive pressure on Polish agricultural producers. That’s why I think we will solve this problem, just like we did with the carriers
– he declared.
Podolak explained that Ukraine wanted to unblock its borders due to the need for uninterrupted arms supplies to the Ukrainian army that was repelling the Russian invasion.
This issue is already being resolved and the government of (Prime Minister Donald) Tusk is looking for ways to unblock the borders. I mean the checkpoints where a lot of equipment goes through
– he said.
This is very important to us because the war is not over. The number of collisions is the same as six months ago. There are 80 to 120 direct collisions every day. Russia, on the other hand, has enormous resources; recently received well over a million additional missiles from North Korea. Poland is an important transit partner in the supply of weapons to our troops
– he emphasized.
When asked about the security agreement between Ukraine and Poland, Podolak said talks on this topic were ongoing.
Negotiations are ongoing. We are talking to many countries, including Poland, because this country is our largest partner today
– said Zelensky’s advisor.
