Deputy Prime Minister and President of PSL Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz estimated on Tuesday that the Third Way project on abortion will likely be submitted within ten days. “We are working on it and want to combine it with the referendum request,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
Women’s safety issues are very important and we, unlike other communities, keep our feet firmly on the ground. We say that everything possible must be done immediately, we are ready
– said Kosiniak-Kamysz on TVN24.
He added that if he receives a signal “from the head of the left and other colleagues to adopt our bill, because it is a step in the better direction, I will be ready even tomorrow.”
Only I don’t have such a signal
– added the Minister of Defense.
When asked when this project would be ready, Kosiniak-Kamysz replied: “we are ready to submit it – I think within 10 days.”
We are working on it and want to combine it with the referendum request, and here we need the support of coalition partners. There is not much enthusiasm on their part yet
– said the PSL leader.
As he explained, the concept of the Third Way (PSL plus Poland 2050) regarding abortion regulations is based on two steps: submitting a project to return to the rules before the 2020 Constitutional Court ruling, and then calling a referendum.
Earlier, the chairman of the Sejm and leader of Poland2050 – Szymon Hołownia – said that on abortion regulations, his group wanted to “return as quickly as possible to the situation that existed before the Constitutional Court’s ruling.”
We will add one or two things that will be understandable and obvious to everyone. Nowadays the legislators are still working on it, I don’t expect any discussion here, but it must also be a slightly different act than the one that was questioned, it will be a change for good
– added the marshal.
As he said, in addition to the bill, there will also be a “draft resolution on the referendum.”
A referendum can be held by resolution and not by law. So it is a slightly different legislative procedure, but it will be a package of these two things
– declared Hołownia.
On the referendum question, there is no more time to hold the citizens’ assemblies that we wanted to hold. There is one simple question you can ask: week 12. Ask this question and see what the Poles will answer about this. The simpler the question, the better and easier it is to involve people in the answer, and if someone today says that he wants the liberalization of abortion laws, there is no other and effective way than a referendum in the coming year and one half of Andrzej Duda’s presidency.
– also assessed the Marshal of the Sejm.
