Andrij Chążniuk is a wildly popular music star in his country. When he spontaneously sang a verse of the song of the sietchman “Red Kalina” in Kiev Street, it became the anthem of the national uprising against Russia.
YES HE SINGS, THIS IS HOW IT WORKS NOW:
The singer was wounded, he survived more than one Russian shelling, but as a volunteer he joined the National Guard and fought first near Kiev, and today serves in the Donbass. Chazyniuk agreed to talk to the weekly magazine “Sieci”, although he is not giving interviews at the time. We found him at the military base, among other soldiers, in the natural environment of his war friends. Quiet, calm, speaking almost in a whisper, lazy, totally different from the temperamental character of a singer. He was simply humble and not distinguished by even a polite word.
THE INTERVIEW WITH THE SINGER CAN READ HERE:
REPORT BY DONBAS. You are our hussars. “The musician claims that the Russian invasion de facto started World War III”
What am I better at than them, that I have to hide and they risk? There is no separate world for artists, we are all under the same sky
– he noted.
It’s hard not to wonder how our artists would behave in the event of the Russian invasion. Who would fight, and who would consider themselves “better”, and who would find it necessary to flee the country in the first place. Would Maciej Stuhr, who instructs the Poles in everything, sit in the trenches of Podlasie? Dawid Podsiadło, which is also the first class of national pop culture (like Chążniuk in Ukraine), would give up his abundance and sing “Żurawiejki” on the streets of Warsaw? Maybe Maria Peszek would put bandages in military first aid kits?
While we have the right to have the worst opinion about the roots of our stage stars, war can present several faces of identity. However, it is worth noting that in Ukraine many artists have actually taken up arms. For example, Ivan Lenyo and Vitaliy Kyrychenko were involved in the defense of the country. And which of our pop culture stars was going to defend the country?
