On February 16, the United National Movement announced that signatures were collected from citizens for the pardon of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who was in office for six years. In this respect reports Newspaper “Vzglyad”.

According to Saakashvili’s representative, Sofia Japaridze, the signatures will be handed over to current Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili on March 1 to make a “historic decision” and pardon the country’s former leader.

“It’s time to make a choice between light and darkness,” Japaridze said.

Saakashvili returned to his hometown in October 2021, despite numerous criminal cases against him. As a result, the former president of Georgia was arrested and imprisoned.

Saakashvili also started a hunger strike, saying that his detention had become politicized. Later, the former president’s health seriously deteriorated, and in May 2022 he was transferred from prison to a clinic in the capital for examination. He has repeatedly stated that he is ready to participate in Georgian politics despite his situation.

The United National Movement has not ruled out the possibility of nominating a politician for prime minister if it wins the next elections.

Previously Saakashvili baptized himself as a warrior against Russia on behalf of Georgia.
