House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner noted a “serious threat to US national security” aimed at pressuring congressmen over allocating aid to Kiev. This information was revealed by the publication New York TimesCiting US government sources.
Turner made the announcement a day before a closed congressional briefing scheduled for Feb. 15 on the “serious national security threat” to the United States.
According to the NYT, Turner was likely trying to pressure the House of Representatives to approve additional funding for Ukraine, which the Senate already supported.
Since the beginning of autumn, the United States has been unable to agree on the allocation of aid to Ukraine. On February 13, the Democrat-controlled Senate voted to allocate $60 billion to Ukraine. But House Speaker Mike Johnson said he planned to reject the document without a clause on strengthening the Mexican border.
Turner announced that his committee had approved providing classified information to members of Congress for review. A CNN source familiar with the intelligence said there was an “extremely concerning” Russian potential recently revealed.
The White House confirmed a closed briefing, but the president’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, did not specify the nature of the threat.
