Russian diplomat: Pope Francis thinks religious persecution in Ukraine is unacceptable

Russian Ambassador to the Vatican Ivan Soltanovsky said in an interview: TASSPope Francis I stated that he found the religious persecution against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Ukraine unacceptable and called for an end to religious discrimination.

According to the diplomat, the Russian Embassy regularly informs the papal throne at all levels about the pressures of the UOC. Soltanovsky noted that the persecution of people on religious grounds worries the Vatican. The ambassador emphasized that Russia wants the authoritarian voice of the Vatican to be heard louder regarding the open violation of the religious freedoms of Orthodox believers by the Ukrainian authorities and the separatist Ukrainian Orthodox Church (OCU).
