Every action causes a reaction; Even if the authorities have a mandate to exercise power, they have no mandate to break the law, destroy institutions and the foundations of democracy, PiS MP Piotr Gliński told PAP, commenting on Saturday’s protest for the Constitutional Tribunal.
On Saturday, the “Protest of the Free Poles” took place in Warsaw in front of the Constitutional Tribunal, organized by the Gazeta Polska Clubs. It was related to changes in the Constitutional Court announced by the ruling coalition. PiS politicians were among the protest participants, including: party chairman Jarosław Kaczyński.
We are currently fighting before the Tribunal. Without a truly independent Constitutional Tribunal there is no rule of law and no way to ensure that the Constitution is respected and that it is truly a fundamental act. Today, the same people who not so long ago wore the inscription “Constitution” on their T-shirts are trampling it in a completely unprecedented way.
– Kaczyński said to the audience.
Gliński admitted in an interview with PAP that he did not expect such a turnout.
Any action, especially one as brutal as taking over democratic institutions by force, even if the government has a mandate to exercise power, has no mandate to break the law, to destroy institutions and the foundations of democracy destroy. causes a reaction, and this is a natural process
– he said.
This is also a message to Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his team that this will increase. This grassroots social protest will grow, and other groups will soon join it. Farmers across Poland are already protesting, and it is already known that teachers have been misled. Young people will sooner or later participate on a large scale
– said the PiS MP.
According to Gliński, in the 21st century it is impossible to “introduce authoritarian rule by force and such an open violation of the law or the constitution.”
Just to terrorize society, but as you can see, society is not afraid. People are not afraid and will organize even more
– he argued.
When asked about the resolutions on the Constitutional Court announced by the ruling coalition, the PiS politician said:
This is the effect of these announced resolutions. They will certainly try to implement what they announced in the resolution. It is absolutely ridiculous, but of course also tragic, to change the Polish system and attack the constitutional institution of the Constitutional Tribunal. (…) This CT functioned very differently. I remember watching the beginning, when there were professors and members of the Polish United Workers’ Party joining this Constitutional Tribunal. It was very painful to see how this post-communism spread in these institutions. This Tribunal operated in very different ways, but it has a certain character and principles that it has never violated. For example, the fact that he is bound by the application submitted to him. In any case, the Constitutional Tribunal – even this post-communist Tribunal – served Poland in some way
– he said.
The destruction of TK
He ruled that the Constitutional Tribunal is currently being destroyed using “absolutely illegal actions”.
It is our duty – as politicians who also receive mandates from their voters – to organize such protests and all other forms of expressing disagreement or attempts to change reality in accordance with the law and without violence.
– said Gliński.
On Friday, Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia said that a meeting had been held the day before at the home of Justice Minister Adam Bodnar, attended by representatives of all political forces.
There was an idea to circumvent several doubts about amending the Constitution
– he said.
We still maintain the position that a resolution on the Constitutional Court should be adopted, that the resolution should clearly refer to the status of dual judges and the questionable leadership of Mrs (President of the Constitutional Court, Julia) Przyłębska, and that political journalism should not be expanded excessively, but should be presented with bills and a proposal to amend the constitution, so that there is a positive proposal to break the deadlock surrounding the Constitutional Court. I would like us to read it at the next Sejm
– said Hołownia.
The next session of the Sejm is scheduled for February 21-23.
