It is important to recall that NATO has a nuclear response capability and that the nuclear umbrella also covers the territory of Poland, says Jacek Siewiera, head of the National Security Office, in Friday’s edition of “Rzeczpospolita”.
An effective deterrent method
When asked in Friday’s Rzeczpospolita what to do to make Russia decide that attacking NATO countries is not worth it, the head of the National Security Office replied:
Build 100% credibility by leveraging the alliance’s potential.
He added that our economic, demographic and military potential is “absolutely greater than that of Russia today.”
However, the one aspect that is being tested by Russia and could lead to challenging the world order is the Western determination and will to take advantage of it. The credibility and assurance that response measures will be applied in solidarity by all participants in a defense alliance such as NATO is the most effective deterrent method.
– said the head of the National Security Bureau.
A nuclear umbrella over Poland
Siewiera was also asked whether Poland should participate in NATO’s Nuclear Sharing program and whether this topic had been raised during the meeting of security advisers at the North Atlantic Council in Brussels.
The North Atlantic Alliance is a nuclear alliance. The position of the President and the Administration in this regard has been the subject of debate in recent years and recurs each time before subsequent NATO summits
– he answered. In his opinion, “it is important to keep in mind that NATO has a nuclear response capability and that the nuclear umbrella also includes the territory of Poland.”
