A visit to Kiev by the three European musketeers (who were four in the original) remains a historic moment. Not because much has been achieved, but because it has become tangible evidence of the humiliation of the leaders of once very important countries.
Some were surprised that President Duda was not there. This is a big misunderstanding to say the least. Scholz, Draghi and Macron went to Kiev as to Canossa to atone for their sins (amend honourable). There was no place there for President Duda, who from the beginning, as a great friend of Ukraine, has behaved with dignity and with great solidarity. Moreover, the international press noted, sometimes with irony and sometimes with shame, the difference between President Zelensky’s photos with Macron (1) and with Duda. They speak for themselves.
If anyone was missing for this tribute visit, Tusk and his former (God bless you) interior minister are Sikorski. After all, these two have always been able to maintain a perfect relationship with Putin, even in April 2010! But these are people who can’t even repent.
But the visit has yielded nothing concrete. Sorry, France promised to give Ukraine 6 (yes, 3 + 3) guns, as if it could change the image of the battle … They added a small scam: they promised that soon – if all goes well – Ukraine a ” candidate” for the EU, that is, it will achieve the status that – as President Macron said – could continue for decades!
If this cannot be the case, I have an offer, perhaps absurd but not nonsensical. I propose the creation of the Polish-Ukrainian Union (can it be called the “Lviv Union”?)where both countries, while maintaining their independence, would form a Union with common international and military goals. By being tied to an EU country, Ukraine would immediately become a member of the EU ipso facto. In addition, a power would be created in the central-eastern part of Europe that could offset the influence of Germany or France. The whole configuration and vision of Europe would be changed forever, balancing the lungs of Western and Eastern Europe to the words of St. John Paul II.
Indeed, the international press is already emphasizing, sometimes bitterly, that after Russia’s aggression against Ukraine – thanks to the attitude of President Duda and Prime Minister Morawiecki – Poland has gained enormous importance and has become more than ever a superpower in the European Union – to consternation of indigenous anti-Polish and “Targowicki” troops. With the Polish-Ukrainian Union, the countries of Western Europe would never again be able to treat the countries of Eastern Europe as a subordinate colony or farm.
Is it worth a try?
(1). President Macron’s low popularity in his own country is now documented. The result of the presidential election, where the presidential party lost its absolute majority, is a disgraceful failure. All the more so since the head of state has always won a clear victory in the parliamentary elections after his success in the presidential elections. From a Polish (and not only) point of view, we can be happy that Macron now does not have a majority in his parliament that supports current EU policies or the president’s federal dreams.
