Janusz Wojciechowski, EU Commissioner for Agriculture, announced on Telewizja wPolska that this week he will present “important proposals that will improve the situation of farmers in a very short time.”
Janusz Wojciechowski plans to present proposals aimed at calming the farmers currently protesting in many EU countries.
There is a debate in the European Parliament this week and on Wednesday I will present some far-reaching proposals that should reassure farmers, at least from the EU side. This is the suspension of certain requirements that now apply to farmers because of the war in Ukraine, because this war has really disrupted the entire peace, including in agriculture.
– he pointed out.
I will present important proposals that will improve the situation of farmers in a very short time
– added.
Editor Aleksandra Jakubowska’s guest presented why farmers in Europe are protesting. He pointed to internal reasons in individual countries, but also pointed to two problems caused by the EU.
First of all, it is indeed an import from Ukraine. This was previously a problem for Poland and the border countries, now it has become a pan-European problem, as everyone begins to feel the consequences of the excessive imports of grain and three other products that have a negative impact on the European market: poultry meat, sugar and eggs.
– said Wojciechowski.
Secondly, the controversial provision in the Common Agricultural Policy obliges farmers to set aside 4%. land, but here I would like to make it clear that this is not an obligation for all farmers, but only for those who want to benefit from direct subsidies, even though the vast majority of farmers benefit from subsidies
– he said. However, he added that thanks to his actions, this problem has been resolved for the time being.
On January 31, an implementing decision of the European Commission was adopted, which I requested, stating that this 4 percent set-aside (…) has already been suspended twice, now, at my initiative, it will also be suspended in 2024
– he pointed out.
