We are ready to participate in the elections in a broad coalition of left-wing parties, said Robert Biedroń, co-chairman of the New Left, after his party’s National Council. NL invited current partners Razem, Unia Pracy and PPS, as well as urban movements and non-governmental organizations to collaborate.
The left is preparing for the elections
On Saturday, the National Council of the New Left met in Warsaw to decide on the formula for participation in the local elections.
After the meeting, party co-chair Robert Biedroń announced that his formation “is ready to run for elections in a broad coalition of left-wing parties.”
The New Left has adopted a resolution in which we invite all forces of the left, all forces of progress: communities and non-governmental organizations, including women’s organizations that participated with us in various elections, to co-establish the Electoral Commission.
– he said.
We invite ecological organizations, we invite organizations representing minorities, we invite urban movements, we invite all people of goodwill who want to be counted in these elections and show that we need good local government, good hosts, good housewives in local government who want to take responsibility for Poland
– emphasizes Biedroń.
The politician recalled that his party co-governs in eleven provincial cities and has representatives at every level of local government.
We want local government and good public services
– said Biedroń, mentioning healthcare, education and transport in this context.
Biedroń declares a broad coalition
The politician stated that his party would run for provincial assemblies in a broad left-wing coalition, but where there is room for talks, he is open to talks with the formations that currently form the ruling coalition in order to maximize profits. The New Left co-chairman announced that the National Council had decided on Saturday that Arkadiusz Sikora, a member of parliament from Lower Silesia, would become the chief of staff.
Sikora made a call at the conference.
We call on all local government officials, from municipal heads to mayors, city presidents and all those who have been on the Democratic side over the past eight years during the Law and Justice reign, to win these elections together and form coalitions that are similar with those of the example in cities, municipalities, provinces and voivodeships of this parliament, i.e. the “coalition of October 15”. I hope these will be ‘coalitions on April 7’
– he said.
Speaking after the National Council, Dariusz Wieczorek, deputy leader of the New Left, told PAP that deputy ministers of his party who are not MPs or senators will be obliged to manage and strengthen the lists in local elections.
Biedroń reminded that the remaining coalition parties on the left, i.e. Razem, PPS and Unia Pracy, will adopt similar resolutions on jointly participating in the elections this weekend.
The Left plans to register an electoral commission on Monday.
The municipal elections will take place on Sunday, April 7. The second round of direct elections for municipal heads, mayors and city presidents – April 21.
