Radosław Sikorski is clearly trying to give the impression that the Polish government has had a tangible influence on the EU negotiations with Viktor Orban. “It turns out it is worth talking to people who are not yet convinced,” emphasized the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry, commenting on the agreement reached in Brussels on aid to Ukraine. Sikorski said he is currently heading to the US “to convince the unconvinced there.”
Good news from Brussels. Viktor Orban lifted the veto and the EU unanimously approved 50 billion euros to maintain the functioning of the Ukrainian state and rebuild its infrastructure. It turns out that it’s worth talking to the unconvinced. That’s why I’m going to Washington to convince those who are not yet convinced
– said Sikorski.
At the European Council meeting that ended yesterday, the issue of the next tranche of aid to Ukraine was discussed. After the meeting, Council President Charles Michel announced that an agreement had been reached between all 27 leaders, including Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who had previously raised objections and agreed to a €50 billion aid package for Ukraine from the EU budget . .

The agreement on aid to Ukraine was reached after small-group negotiations before the official start of the summit. European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen, together with the leaders of France, Germany and Italy – Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and Giorgia Meloni – held a private meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. They were later joined by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.

American visit
Radosław Sikorski announced that he would visit Washington in the first week of February. The head of Polish diplomacy then said that his meetings in the House of Representatives and the Senate would include: further support for Ukraine.
According to the head of the State Department, “American credibility currently depends on Ukraine not losing this war.”
I will convince American lawmakers that Ukraine primarily provides certain benefits to the United States. And secondly, that Putin’s conquest of Ukraine would also be very costly for the US – and not only in Europe, but also in relation to the entire US system of alliances, both in Europe and in Asia
– emphasized Sikorski in an interview for the Wyborcza.pl portal.
If Donald Tusk’s government had such overwhelming influence over the EU negotiations with the Hungarian Prime Minister, why did it not participate in the first, most important phase of the talks?
