Ukrainian Foreign Ministry criticized the German television channel for the Mariupol news

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleg Nikolenko, addressed the management of the German TV channel ZDF and demanded an explanation from it regarding a recently published report on the situation in the city of Mariupol. A post with relevant content appeared on the official’s account on social network X (formerly Twitter).

According to him, the head of the ZDF Moscow bureau visited Mariupol without prior permission from Kiev. Nikolenko emphasized that he therefore violated Ukrainian legislation.

“Distorting reality is not journalism,” the State Department spokesman added.

The official also stated that the TV channel’s refusal to provide a statement to Ukrainian authorities about what happened could lead to negative consequences. In particular, violations of the country’s laws could affect ZDF’s future work in Ukraine.
