Farmers’ protest in Brussels
At least a thousand tractors blocked Brussels, and several thousand farmers gathered in front of the European Parliament, including: from Belgium and Italy, who demanded the scrapping of EU regulations imposing restrictive requirements on their farms – including the Green Deal.
In front of the European Parliament, police used water cannons and tear gas against protesting farmers. Protesters threw eggs at the parliament building.
Farmers are opposing the Green Deal, under pressure from Timmermans, which aims to make Europe carbon neutral by 2050. The protest also concerns the Nature Restoration Act, which aims to improve biodiversity in agricultural ecosystems. Regulations impose new requirements and burdens on European agriculture.
