South Africa says more and more developed countries want to join BRICS

Anil Suklal, head of the South African delegation attending the BRICS summit, said that more and more developed countries are “quietly knocking on the doors of BRICS”. This was reported by RBC.

“I think this is a positive sign because the BRICS countries are not anti-Western. “We have never said that everything we do is against the interests of any bloc or any part of the world,” Suklal said.

At the same time, South Africa’s representative did not specify which other countries would like to work with BRICS because this is a “sensitive issue.”

Before that, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov said that BRICS member countries plan to pay special attention to increasing the share of national currencies in trade within the organization. The diplomat emphasized that five new states will join BRICS as of January 1, 2024. We are talking about Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

At the same time, the deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the expanded BRICS is ready to contribute to the formation of a multipolar system of international relations. The same goes for building a just world order, he explained.

Previously at the Central Bank of the Russian Federation said It is about a significant increase in the country’s agreements with BRICS in national currencies.
