I have no objection to my work – said the Minister of Justice, Attorney General Adam Bodnar, commenting on the submission by PiS of a notice to the Public Prosecution Service on the possibility of committing a crime related to the appointment of prosecutors of the Public Prosecution Service.
The head of the PiS club, Mariusz Błaszczak, announced on Monday that he had filed a report regarding the suspicion of committing a crime by Bodnar, regarding the appointment of prosecutors of the National Prosecutor’s Office. Błaszczak also recalled that PiS MPs had filed a motion of no confidence in the Sejm against the Justice Minister.
Referring to these issues, Bodnar later told journalists in the Sejm that he had “no reservations” about his work.
I believe that what I am doing at the Public Prosecution Service to restore the functioning of the Public Prosecution Service for the benefit of the citizens, to prosecute criminals and to ensure accountability, is right.
– he emphasized.
As I understand it, this is probably not the last report of this type. I understand that being treated this way is a form of pressure on me
– added.
When asked by a journalist from Radio ZET when the drafts regarding the changes he announced would be submitted, the Minister of Justice replied: ‘We are now in the phase of preparing very extensive and diverse legal changes and I I think very specific proposals can be expected. the next few days.”
When asked whether this would also be a project to change the constitution, Bodnar emphasized that this issue is still under discussion.
Issues related to amending the Constitution are always very serious, so I do not want to prejudge facts at this point
– he said.
On Friday, the Ministry of Justice announced that Attorney General Adam Bodnar has appointed six prosecutors who were demoted to prosecutors in the National Public Prosecutor’s Office in 2016: Prosecutor of the Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw Anna Adamiak, Prosecutor of the Warsaw-Wola Public Prosecutor’s Office Andrzej Janecki, Prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw Artur Kassyk, Prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Łódź Krzysztof Karsznicki, Prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Krakow Marek Jamrogowicz and Prosecutor of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw-Prague Marzena Kowalska.
Prosecutor Dariusz Barski then commented on the case.
I have not sent any applications to the Attorney General for the appointment of six prosecutors to the positions of public prosecutors at the National Public Prosecutor’s Office
– says Barski’s statement, signed as National Prosecutor.
An attack by Tusk’s coalition on the Public Prosecution Service
On January 12, the Ministry of Justice announced that the Prime Minister had entrusted the duties of the National Prosecutor to Jacek Bilewicz. Bilewicz replaced Dariusz Barski as acting national prosecutor. The Justice Department also stated at the time that Barski “remains retired, which makes it impossible for him to serve as National Prosecutor.” The Department states that Prosecutor Barski’s reinstatement on February 16, 2022 was accomplished through the application of provisions of the law that were no longer in effect.
The National Public Prosecutor’s Office still maintains the position that Barski is the national prosecutor.
