Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki referred to the European Commission’s false advertisement suggesting that Auschwitz was a Polish death camp. “The European Commission has changed Holocaust Remembrance Day to the ‘Day of Manipulation and Distortion of Facts’ and the ‘Day of Unjust Lies about Occupied Poland’,” the PiS MP wrote.
The recording, featuring EU politicians – including Ursula von der Leyen – commemorated the victims of the Holocaust. Justifiably. It is a meaningful form of commemoration of those who died as a result of brutal German crimes. But that’s right: Nazis, Hitler’s, perpetrated by the German aggressor, the occupier. Those would be the correct terms. Meanwhile, what appeared in the video published by the European Commission? The inscription reads: “Camp Auschwitz, Poland.” This is outrageous manipulation of facts, leading to the construction of a misleading and damaging narrative
– Morawiecki noted.

The Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was founded and run by German Nazis. By criminals who occupied our homeland for years, which was brutally attacked in 1939. The name of the camp shown in the film (“Auschwitz”, not “Oświęcim”) clearly indicates that it was a German extermination camp. Why was Poland pointed out without providing important contextual historical facts? This is a slap in the face for the Poles. Regardless of whether it was a conscious act or an unintentional mistake
– emphasized the former head of government.
Response to Sikorski’s words
Mateusz Morawiecki also drew attention to Radosław Sikorski’s attitude:
This situation required the response of the Polish government: a strong position and defense of the good name of our homeland. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski wrote on social media: “When writing about the Nazi extermination camp in Auschwitz, it should be noted that it was established under German occupation. Information on the European Commission’s social media will be clarified, but it is a pity that the Polish EU Commissioner did not present the Polish position in advance.

Really, Minister? Even in such a situation, have you made accusations against a Polish politician from the opposite political camp? Was it so difficult to write directly that this unfortunate film is a disgrace to the honor of the President of the European Commission? Fortunately, the quick response from many concerned Poles led to this embarrassing entry being removed. Better late than never… This situation shows how important our unity is in important areas for the country, including the fight for historical truth
– noted the parliamentarian.
