The tragedy of Smolensk is an event in our history so important and even epoch-making that we will think about it constantly and forever. And the more it will be remembered, the more it will be fought against – he says in response to the publication of the so-called Miller Commission report, in an interview with the wPolityce.pl portal, Jacek Świat, Member of Parliament for Law and Justice, who lost his wife in the crash of April 10, 2010 – Aleksandra Natalia-Świat, then PiS MP.
In your opinion, it is the return of the so-called Is the December 13 coalition, according to the Miller Commission report, carrying out any of its plans?
One short word sums it up: RESET! I have no doubt that we will face further versions of what Poles already know as the reset of relations with Russia, or perhaps rather as the reset of Soviet thinking. After so many years of very important work by Antoni Macierewicz’s subcommittee, which was dissolved in violation of the law, the report and its contents are now being thrown into the trash. And yet in all these years – thanks to the efforts of the members of this subcommittee – we have learned a lot. But not only thanks to the subcommittee, but also to dozens of excellent scientists from Poland and abroad who are associated with this subcommittee and other research centers.
As if it didn’t exist at all.
As if the Poles were complete idiots and believed that planes crashed despite the laws of physics.
Perhaps this plan is a new interpretation of Poland’s recent history?
That’s a good point. It has been said for centuries that history is written by the victors. However, the brazenness and brutality with which this is currently happening in Poland, debunking what everyone knows, really reminds us of the worst, communist times. A non-existent story takes its place.
This may seem unrelated, but a plaque dedicated to cursed soldiers has just disappeared from the Ministry of Climate and Environment, and a plaque of the patron saint of OHP – Saint. John Paul II… In short: something new is coming.
For you, as someone who lost a loved one in the Smolensk disaster, events such as the liquidation of Antoni Macierewicz’s subcommittee in mid-December 2023, or the current dissemination of a report among Poles that is a copy of the Russian report of Tatiana Anodina, be particularly painful.
First of all, it is appalling that this issue has not only not been resolved or treated as a priority for many, many years, but that various forces are still trying to prevent the pursuit of the truth. But it must also be said that this issue was not resolved, but was politicized in a disgusting manner. The amount of insults we have heard over the past twelve years, how we have been insulted and spat at just because we don’t believe Anodina and Miller’s story – it is unimaginable. And this unfortunately comes back with the pain of the families affected by the Smolensk disaster. And once again the opportunity to finally explain the entire history of this tragedy and find its possible perpetrators slips away. Our humiliation also returns. Once again we are treated like stupid children who are expected to believe everything Big Brother says.
We hear that Miller’s report is “the only legal, binding document” on the causes of the Smolensk disaster. The pain and resistance of families is understandable, but will Poles be able to stop seeking the truth and remembering the national trauma of April 10, 2010?
Of course this won’t happen. It is an event in our history so important and even groundbreaking that it will be remembered continually and forever. And the more it will be remembered, the more there will be fighting. There’s no wonder it would be different. If anyone thinks that he will bury this matter somewhere – as the classic says – a meter deep, he is naive, if not more naive.
