A nationwide farmers’ protest began at 12 noon. Blockades were organized in more than 170 places. The organizer is NSZZ Solidarność Rolników Indywidualnych and the list of demands is long and boils down to improving the profitability of agricultural production.
Since the morning hours, farmers began arriving in designated areas with tractors and large agricultural machinery. In total, more than 170 places must be blocked.
The largest blockades in northeastern Poland
The demonstrators have two main demands. The first concerns stopping the uncontrolled import of agricultural products from Ukraine and other non-EU countries. The second is the demand for the development of a new strategy for the development of agriculture in the EU and the revision of the common agricultural policy.
These include:
1. Abandoning ideas about limiting or banning livestock farming in Poland.
2. Recognition of livestock farming as a strategic sector.
3. Sales through the National Food Group, in the form of a commission, of fertilizers from Polish chemical factories.
4. Maintenance of agricultural fuel subsidies at PLN 2.
5. Activities aimed at the development of agro-food processing.
6. The return and development of the National Food Group.
7. Introduce mechanisms to protect farmers from dishonest contractors.
As former Minister of Agriculture Robert Telus of PiS wrote: the most important thing is to improve the profitability of agricultural production in Poland.
Today farmers in Poland are protesting. Without politicians and politics. They are fighting for food security, because politicians from the parties of Manfred Weber and Donald Tusk are destroying Polish agriculture and processing. Task No. 1 is to stop the import of agricultural products from Ukraine
– emphasized former Deputy Minister of Agriculture Janusz Kowalski.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Michał Kołodziejczak appeared at the protest in Nysa and of course boasted about it on the X platform.
I support you so that our Polish agriculture feeds the Poles. I support you because you are here, so that we Poles do not starve and do not pay too much for food now and in the future. I am here with you so that Polish agriculture will guarantee food security for Poland
– wrote Kołodziejczak, who of course blamed the United Right government exclusively for the difficult situation of the farmers.
The MEP recalled that it was Polish Commissioner Wojciechowski who “received a temporary ban on the sale of Ukrainian grain at a critical moment!”
You can protect Polish farmers and continue the sales ban, but Tusk’s colleagues in the EU are still pursuing crazy policies!
– wrote on the X platform.
Meanwhile, the European Commission recently expanded the regulation expanding free trade with Ukraine. The actions of Donald Tusk’s government were ineffective in this regard.
