Donald Tusk announced at the press conference after the government meeting that the issue of access to the morning-after pill had been “finalized” and that “the draft law will be sent to the Sejm.” “It seems indisputable that this drug should be widely available to interested parties,” the head of government said.
The bill regarding the morning-after pill is submitted to the Sejm
To clear up all doubts and misunderstandings, we are talking about freely available access for those interested from 15 years of age. Emergency contraception will be available without a prescription for this group. This is about one specific drug mentioned in the law: “Ella One”
– said Tusk.
The Prime Minister tried to explain that “this is a method that prevents fertilization. So it is not a pill for early abortion, which has stirred emotions in many circles, but a pill to prevent pregnancy.”
Under 15s, a prescription is required. This solution is the most widespread in EU countries and will enable universal access to emergency contraception for all for whom it was previously unavailable. I don’t want to go into details here, but you just have to have a little imagination about how this contraceptive works. Time plays a key role here and the fact that a prescription was required often meant that de facto emergency contraception was not available to those interested in many places in Poland.
– Tusk said at the press conference.
Tusk again on the president’s veto
The politician could not forgive himself for minor misfortunes and in this case too he talked about a possible presidential veto.
The law itself is very simple, as it essentially changes one short provision in the law currently in force. I hope that during the proceedings in Parliament and later when the bill is on the President’s desk, there will be no objections, obstacles or attempts to veto this bill. It seems indisputable that this drug should be widely available to those interested
– said Tusk.
The Civic Platform politician made no mention of the terrible effects the pill, which Tusk called a drug, could have on a woman’s body.
