“The PiS club has submitted a package of projects related to agriculture to the Sejm. The proposed solutions concern increasing the profitability of production, diversifying income and ensuring greater production security,” MP Anna Gembicka said today during the press conference of the representatives of the PiS club. PiS and the Kukiz’15 group submitted a package of six bills on agriculture to the Sejm.
A package of agricultural laws related to systemic solutions
During a media conference, PiS MP Anna Gembicka pointed out that agriculture is a system of interconnected ships. That is why a package of agricultural laws has been brought forward that addresses systemic solutions.
Tomorrow, farmers across Poland will take to the streets to protest against EU regulations, the European Green Deal and the opening of borders with Ukraine. We were not afraid to introduce unilateral restrictions on the border with Ukraine to protect Polish farmers, and these proposals currently presented by the EU will only lead to a new crisis.
– she assessed.
As the MP said, the proposed solutions concern increasing agricultural profitability, diversifying income and ensuring greater production security.
Local shelf
Among the proposals submitted by the club was a bill on retail sales of local products, i.e. the so-called local shelf. Gembicka recalled that this project was announced during the election campaign. It assumes, among other things: the obligation of supermarkets to ensure that 2/3 of products such as fruits, vegetables – produced in Poland – bread, dairy products and meat products are obtained locally.
The idea is to strengthen the position of farmers in the supply chain so that consumers also have access to healthy, Polish, local food.
– she said. She added that the proposal also assumes that supermarkets will mark such products with the Polish flag.
Other projects
PiS MPs also submitted bills: changes to customs legislation, on compensation for damage caused by birds And amendment to the Animal Feed Act.
Jarosław Sachajko from Kukiz’15 indicated that the next project is coming amending the provisions on farmers’ social insurance. As he said, it stipulates, among other things, that farmers can use their equipment for non-farm work. The MP added that the project aims to “restore what the Left of the PSL took from farmers in 2003, that is, farmers can work under labor contracts while still remaining farmers.”
Sachajko also mentioned the project amendment of the law on the agricultural protection fund. The proposal aims to include farmers’ cooperatives and agricultural production cooperatives among the beneficiaries of the Agricultural Protection Fund Act.
Robert Telus points out that the PiS club has also submitted a project amending the law on combating unfair use of contractual advantages in trade in agricultural and food products.
We call this law the “Spanish law”. This is expected by farmers. Farmers want it to be profitable, and for this to happen, they cannot be exploited by different companies, by those who collect
Telus said.
It often happens that the farmer is the weakest link in the entire food chain. Companies took advantage of this and often paid much less for products than the cost of production. With this law we ensure that the company cannot pay the farmer less than the production costs
– said the PiS politician.
Telus, answering questions from journalists, expressed the hope that some of the proposals submitted would be supported by PSL because – as he said – these were demands of the Third Way electorate.
