I am open to negotiating changes in the legal system, but there is a “boundary condition”; I will not allow any verification of judges appointed during the 8.5 years I have been president, President Andrzej Duda emphasized. The president referred to possible changes in the judiciary that would meet Brussels’ expectations.
On Sunday, President Andrzej Duda took part in the celebrations of the 161st anniversary of the January Uprising, taking place in Vilnius. After meeting with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, both leaders took part in a press conference. Andrzej Duda was asked about information in the media that the European Commission is “looking for a way to circumvent” a possible presidential veto and is “considering transferring money from the KPO” as money from the structural funds.
I will not allow any verification of the judges appointed during the 8.5 years I am president. These are people who have gone through the entire procedure before joining the judiciary or being promoted. They were appointed in accordance with regulations, took an oath before the President and received nominations. I will not allow these people to be verified and prosecuted
– said Andrzej Duda.
There is a group of politician-lawyers, or rather judge-politicians and lawyer-politicians, who would like to take simple, animalistic political revenge on these people. I will never allow that.
– noted the President.
““It was a purely political act.”
He emphasized that judges must remain fully independent and independent. As he announced, he will never allow them to be verified.
I am open to other aspects of changes in the legal system. I will discuss what I said during the meeting with Commissioner Vera Jourova and during the meeting with Prime Minister Tusk
– added the president.
As for the KPO, I have no doubt as to what the intent was in blocking the KPO’s funds. This was a purely political action. It was an attempt to force a change of government in Poland and current events confirm this
– said the head of state.
