Irina Vlah, former head of the Gagauz autonomy and coordinator of the Moldovan Platform association, did not rule out that the opposition will nominate a single candidate against the current head of state, Maia Sandu, in the upcoming presidential elections. His words are transmitted by the portal News Producer.

“We are discussing a single candidate with different parties. There are different views; there are leaders who say they should be candidates, there are those who say we should have a common candidate. We also have a list of ten candidates from different areas,” Vlach said.

The politician did not disclose the names of the candidates for the presidency, claiming that a common stance on this issue has not yet been developed.

“In the Chisinau mayoral elections, a situation may arise in which the opposition also discusses one candidate, but then everyone goes their own way. Maybe two or three parties will unite and put forward their own candidate. “But I think everyone will unite in the second round,” he emphasized.

December 24, Moldovan President Maia Sandu spoke with a proposal to the country’s parliament to hold a referendum to find out the opinions of citizens on the republic’s entry into the European Union.

At the end of 2023, MPs approved amendments to the Electoral Code, which stipulated that a referendum could be held on the day of parliamentary and presidential elections.

Previously In Moldova, the Sandu Prize awarded from Romania “for European values” was described as illegal.
