Prime Minister Donald Tusk likes to ‘play’ with children. He liked to do that during the election campaign and it appears that he has not abandoned it yet. Today he announced a regulation from the Ministry of National Education banning homework for students in classes I-III. “I solemnly announce: this problem will no longer exist. New household rules from April,” he announced. Finally, he winked (literally) at the high school students.
Although the Civic Coalition accused PiS of populism, it could not think of a more populist idea than abolishing homework in primary schools. While it sounds utopian and catchy and will certainly allow the current government to gain at least a small advantage among children and youth (who don’t have the right to vote), it’s hard to say that anyone in power would wonder. what consequences this will have. This will come about in the long term as subsequent generations of students go to school, study and then enter the labor market.
The ordinance, which will be adopted in April, de facto bans teachers from assigning homework to children. As if it were impossible to give teachers (whom the current government, which was in opposition, would have so incredibly supported) the right to choose.

“This problem will no longer exist.”
First, the head of the Ministry of National Education, Barbara Nowacka, announced that the regulation would come into force in early April through Wp.pl’s “Tłit” program. Later, Prime Minister Donald Tusk himself played the role of the fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse, which brought with it damaging populism.
Do you remember Maciek from Włocławek?
– he asked in a recording published, among other places: on platform X. Tusk referred to the boy who took part in his election rally in Włocławek. Maciek, about 9-10 years old, essentially expressed what bothers most of his peers, but also older students:
This is a problem for Polish schools in general, namely that children’s rights are being violated. Assignments for the weekend, tests for Monday…
– said the boy from Włocławek mentioned in the recording.
I solemnly announce: this problem will no longer exist. New homework rules from April: no homework in groups I to III. Well, except sometimes a poem. Groups 4-8 – homework only for those who want it and without grades
– Donald Tusk said today.
As for high school, have fun. On winter break
– concluded the Prime Minister with a wink and a smile
There will be no more problem.
It seems a bit as if the changes in education were decided by an elementary school student participating in a meeting with Donald Tusk. If 500+ is ‘populism’, what is the ban on homework? The long-term effect of PiS’s ‘populist’ programs is to reduce child poverty. What will be the effect of the current government’s ‘wise’ and ‘non-populist’ ideas on education?
