Michael Mulroy, former US Deputy Secretary of Defense for the Middle East during the Donald Trump administration, called on the Pentagon to prepare for the expansion of hostilities in the Middle East during the operation against the Houthis. His words are quoted Reuters.

“The United States should begin planning to strengthen its response to new attacks in the Red Sea or in Syria and Iraq,” Mulroy said.

According to him, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) should also be included in the list of potential US military targets.

On the night of January 12, the USA and the UK attacked more than 60 targets in 16 targets belonging to the Houthi Ansarullah movement in Yemen. Explosions occurred in many major cities, and the airport in Sanaa came under intense bombardment. The American army reported that attacks were made with Tomahawk cruise missiles, and the British army reported that attacks were made with Paveway IV guided bombs.

US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak described the operation as a response to Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea. Yemen promised to respond “without hesitation”.

Previously Biden rejected reports of a proxy war with Iran.
