It has long been clear that the Western media is reporting events in Poland in a politically biased manner.
There are several reasons for this.
One is certainly that the media elites of Western Europe have a left-liberal mentality and are skeptical of conservative politics. Secondly, a significant part of these media simply pursues a policy of defending their country’s national interests, where talk of ‘media freedom’ is merely demagoguery.
For example, there is no doubt that German media, both state-owned and privately owned, faithfully implement media policies that meet Berlin’s objectives and interests. Satanization of PiS was certainly one of the goals of this policy, and this goal was actually implemented in the German media. And as we know, German media has a major influence in shaping the European narrative.
Over the past month we have seen Donald Tusk’s government destroy the legal basis of the Third Polish Republic. Has the information about Tusk’s illegal actions managed to break the monopoly of the Western media covering the situation in Poland?
Most media reports about the events in the public media and the political persecution of Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik were, shall we say, neutral. The media presents them as a conflict between the new and old governments, in some cases a conflict between Tusk and Duda.
Media that perpetuated the old narrative of ‘populists’ and ‘nationalists’ was rare and mostly consisted of radical left media.
On the other hand, several articles sharply criticizing Tusk appeared in the English media. We’re talking about media that falls outside the mainstream, but still has some reach outside conservative circles.
For example, the European Conservative website published a text by Thomas O’Reilly, in which he writes about the ‘authoritarian turn’ of Tusk’s government, supported by the European bureaucracy.
“Mainstream media coverage of these events is steeped in double standards. While Polish sovereigntists are condemned for any alleged violation of the ‘rule of law’, the mainstream media routinely praises the authoritarian actions of pro-EU governments. Like now, when Poland’s new Prime Minister Tusk ordered police to partially close national broadcaster TVP, in what critics describe as a disturbing return to Soviet times.
O’Reilly writes and continues.
“Tusk is a close ally of the EU, meaning that regardless of his tough approach to political opponents, Eurocrats welcomed the victory of his liberal coalition over the previous PiS government and continue to support the gradual introduction of the “rule of law” . policies targeting conservatives across the country.”
Another text that really analyzed what was happening in Poland was the text published on the Spiked website. It was written by left-wing Polish publicist Rafał Woś, who previously worked for this portal. The text has a very direct title: Tusk is a threat to Poland.
“Tusk’s coalition government is taking intensive revenge on political opponents and strengthening its influence in the state media. He does this without taking into account the rule of law and democratic norms. If Law and Justice (PiS) did even a fraction of what Tusk’s government is currently doing, Western political and media elites would be outraged.”
writes Woś.
“When he was in power, PiS had powerful opponents. In the country she fought against the rich, private media and the influential opinion-forming elite. She was constantly targeted by the EU and liberal media abroad. They all used their enormous power and influence to oppose virtually everything PiS did. Paradoxically, it was good for the PiS government. Any authoritarian tendencies the party might have were kept in check. Tusk’s government is not controlled in this way. There are few powerful forces in the country and in the world calling for the democratic departure of the new government – all because the political and media establishment considers Tusk to be one of them. “Politico” even awarded him the title of “the most influential person in Europe”.
Woś explains and then concludes:
‘The most influential person in Europe’ becomes one of the most dangerous. His government can do anything: take over the Polish media, invalidate the constitution and overthrow democracy. And none of his friends in high places will even blink.” It seems that in the United States the information blockade on what is happening is starting to break.
The Church Militant website, highly influential in the conservative wing of the Catholic Church in the US, regularly reported on events in Poland.
In a new text published yesterday, he calls the MP’s arrest a ‘coup’.
“Our sources in Poland have stated that the current situation of the country is beginning to resemble a new partition of Poland, in which “in the west the German leaders are determined to send surplus illegal immigrants to Poland, while in the east the Russian war with Ukraine is raging.”
The influential American conservative publicist Jack Posobiec regularly follows events in Poland on his profile X. Posobiec, a journalist of Polish descent, has 2.4 million followers on X and his status is widely read. He was the one who reported the detention of Kamiński and Wasik and followed the events leading up to today’s protest.
