Szymon Hołownia announced that the consultations on Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik would start tomorrow. “He should talk, among others: with the head of the Ministry of Justice, Attorney General Adam Bodnar, ombudsman Marcin Wiącek and the chairman of the National Electoral Commission Sylwester Marciniak,” according to PAP information.
The Marshal of the Sejm asks for advice
The Marshal of the Sejm wants consultations on the expiry of the parliamentary mandates of Kamiński and Wąsik. The Polish Press Agency determined this tomorrow at 1 p.m. On September 9, the marshal has a scheduled meeting with the Minister of Justice, Attorney General Adam Bodnar. He will then speak with the Commissioner for Human Rights, Marcin Wiącek. A meeting with retired judges is scheduled for Monday afternoon, and on Tuesday morning Hołownia will meet with the chairman of the National Electoral Commission, Sylwester Marciniak.
The case of Kamiński and Wąsik
The former head of the CBA and former Minister of the Interior Mariusz Kamiński and his former deputy Maciej Wąsik were convicted on December 20 this year. a final sentence of two years in prison in connection with the so-called land scandal. The Marshal of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, issued decisions on the expiry of the parliamentary mandates of Kamiński and Wąsik.
On January 3, the Chamber of Labor and Social Security of the Supreme Court received appeals from Maciej Wąsik and Mariusz Kamiński against the Marshal’s decision to terminate their mandate, sent by the Chairman of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia. The next day before noon, the Labor Chamber of the Supreme Court, regarding Wąsik’s dismissal, made a decision to transfer the case to the Chamber for Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs of the Supreme Court. Then, early in the afternoon, it was reported that the Supreme Court’s Extraordinary Control Chamber had revoked the Sejm Speaker’s decision to terminate the mandate of MP Maciej Wąsik. On January 5, it was reported that the same chamber had revoked the decision of the Speaker of the Sejm regarding the expiry of the mandate of MP Mariusz Kamiński.
President Andrzej Duda had previously indicated in a letter to the Speaker of the Sejm that as a result of the application of the Law of Pardon in 2015 to Kamiński and Wąsik, who were subsequently unlawfully convicted by the Court of First Instance, there were no grounds for the expiry of their mandate.
The head of the President’s Office, Marcin Mastalerek, asked today on Polsat News whether President Duda would not perform a second act of mercy towards Kamiński and Wąsik, saying again that “the President has pardoned them in an educational way and that not will do. a second time because his grace is at work and in power.”
As you can see, Marshal Szymon Hołownia’s self-confidence is weakening. After his – as a representative of the legislature – attempt to de facto interfere with the powers of the judiciary, the question arises: is the recent TVN showman suitable to play the role of the second person in the state?
