Former US President Donald Trump appealed to the country’s Supreme Court for a decision to exclude him from the primary elections in Colorado. This was reported by RIA NewsCiting a petition from the former president’s representatives to the White House.
In the petition submitted to the highest court, it was stated that “The petition for writ of certiorari was granted and the decision of the Colorado Supreme Court was summarily reversed.”
Trump’s defense is appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court over whether the politician’s exclusion from the Republican primaries was a mistake. Lawyers point out that legislators, not courts, should decide controversial issues regarding admission to the presidential race.
Trump’s lawyers also reject the state Supreme Court’s ruling that their client participated in the insurrection and was therefore barred from running under the Third Section of the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution.
Former former advisor to Barack Obama and CNN columnist David Axelrod statedIt was stated that the decision to oust Trump from the vote would “tear the country apart” as questions arose about the legal nature of such actions.
Maine Secretary of State Shanna Bellows, a Democrat, removed Trump from her list of candidates in the primary, citing his role in the attack on the Capitol by his supporters in January 2021. According to him, the former US president violated the 14th Amendment to the country’s constitution and cannot participate in the elections because he aided “insurrection or insurrection”. The politician’s lawyers had already objected to such a move. The decision in Maine follows a similar decision in Colorado. At the same time, it was not possible to exclude Trump from the primaries in California, Michigan and Missouri.
Prior to this, the Supreme Court of the US state of Colorado had banned Trump from participating in the Republican primaries to nominate the party for the US presidency. Presidential elections are planned to be held in November 2024.
Previously in the USA named Trump is “an authoritarian narcissist.”
