Reduction of religious lessons, drastic reduction of the basic curriculum, abolition of homework for younger children and reduction of the reading canon. Is the only task that the new team at the Ministry of Education has set itself to simply eliminate?! “We want to slim down the core curriculum by a maximum of 20% from September 1, which means that 5 to 20% will disappear. content depending on individual topics,” she announced, among others. Deputy Head of the Ministry of National Education Katarzyna Lubnauer (KO).
The first strike – a religion lesson. Eloquent!
What awaits Polish schools under the new management of the Ministry of Education? It is significant that the first decision of the leadership of the Ministry of National Education concerns an ideological – anti-clerical – tendency, that is, a strike against religious classes.
This was one of Barbara Nowacka’s first announcements (…). The solution is that religious lessons should not be included among other lessons. One religion lesson after or before the lessons, where no grade for religion is calculated based on the average (…). We want this to come into effect as soon as possible, from September 1
– Katarzyna Lubnauer announced on Radio Zet.
All changes in education only come into effect from the beginning of the new school year, and some changes in education may only come into effect in subsequent years, because, for example, broader changes require changing textbooks.
– she continued.
We want to make some program changes from September 1 this year, but fundamental changes will have to wait. They need to be prepared in wider public consultations, with changes to textbooks, etc.
– Lubnauer added, although she quickly stated that broader public consultations on religion are not necessary, because – attention! – this “was just consulted in the latest poll”, which shows that the majority of voters of the new ruling coalition are in favor of limiting religious lessons. I wonder: what about the rest of society? What about the church side? The State Secretary apparently wants to exclude these people.

Abolition of housework?
Deputy Education Minister Katarzyna Lubnauer, when asked when the abolition of homework would come into effect, said that “work on the regulation changing the rules for assigning homework is already underway.” She explained that “the adoption of a regulation according to government procedure requires following legal procedures, including: consultation or inter-ministerial arrangements.
This arrangement is currently being prepared. My answer is: for it
– she added.
We would like the scheme to come into effect this school year. However, when it comes into effect, we will announce it as soon as it is ready
– Lubnauer announced. As she said, “It can’t be that a child has virtually no weekend, because every Friday someone assigns him something for Monday.”
Homework is pointless for groups 1 to 3. Such a child will not be able to solve the homework on his own. In fact, this is not only a task for children, but also for parents. This should not be the case. This is necessary for older children [prace domowe] reduce significantly
– she continued.
Teacher salaries
When asked whether this would also increase teacher salaries, she noted that “teachers work in accordance with the teacher statute.”
We said very clearly that we were not increasing the salary (…). We’re talking about 30 percent. increases for appointed and certified teachers and 33 percent. for beginners, from January 1, 2024. This will of course be compensated when the budget is determined. (…) It will probably be around March 2, but with compensation from January 1
– said the deputy head of the Ministry of Education.
Slimming down the core curriculum
It doesn’t stop there. What else does the new management of the Ministry of National Education want to cut?
We want to reduce the core curriculum by a maximum of 20% from September 1, which means that 5 to 20% will disappear. content depending on individual topics
– announced Katarzyna Lubnauer. She emphasized that “it will not be a revolution.” However, it is difficult to agree with this statement…
Under current curriculum views, some content will be restricted. (…) This gives the teacher more autonomy in choosing certain content, the possibility of expanding it, talking about certain issues in a more interesting way or, for example, working in a group. This will reduce the validity of assigning homework
– Lubnauer also said.
She noted that the core curriculum will be developed by teams of experts “launching early this year.” She added that they would work with the Central Examination Board so that – as she explained – “the core curriculum and examination requirements do not diverge.”
Reading books in the trash
Small? That is why the Deputy Minister of Education also announced to “limit the number of lectures”.
Not only students but also teachers complain about this, because it practically does not give them the opportunity to choose anything outside the canon imposed from above.
– said the Deputy Minister of Education.
What else? The attack will also be on the subject of History and the Present, which is hated by the left and liberals.
We would like the next age group entering middle school and first grade to no longer have HiT. What in return? We will make a proposal in the coming weeks
– said Lubnauer.
So far we hear about liquidation, removal and restriction. This is supposed to be a positive change in education?! What awaits Polish schools? We can certainly feel anxious.
