Senator Stanisław Karczewski sent a senatorial statement to the Minister of Culture in Donald Tusk’s government, Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz. In the document, the Law and Justice politician asked a number of questions about the actions taken by the head of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage towards the public media. “For more than a week, so since the unclear attempt to appoint new members of the management of the above-mentioned institutions, Poles, despite the provisions of the Law on the National Media Council, have not been able to watch news services in the public media,” stressed Senator Karczewski.
Tusk’s team attack on public media
Let us not forget that the Sejm adopted a resolution on the restoration of the rule of law and the impartiality and reliability of the public media and the Polish Press Agency, calling on the Ministry of Finance to take corrective measures. President Andrzej Duda vetoed the 2024 budget law. In his justification, he explained that he did not agree to allocate the PLN 3 billion specified in the law to “illegally taken over public media”.
Sienkiewicz announced that, due to the president’s decision to suspend funding of public media, he decided to liquidate TVP, Polskie Radio and PAP. The state of liquidation can be withdrawn by the owner at any time – stated in the announcement of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Sienkiewicz also announced that he had decided to liquidate seventeen regional companies of Polish radio stations.

Actions that contradict the idea of democracy
The politician also asked for copies of the minutes to be attached to the response.
Taking into account the media reports (photos, recordings, videos), I would also like to request information about who ordered the rental and who financed the security company whose employees have taken action at PAP and TVP in recent days.

The PiS politician also called on Sienkiewicz to immediately explain the current situation in the public media.
As a politician and senator of PiS, I do not agree that Poles should be limited in their choice of information channels and that the ways of obtaining information about the world should be imposed on them. This is contrary to the provisions of the Constitution in force in Poland and contradicts all ideas of democracy
