“‘Donald Tusk has trampled on the Polish constitution’
What we are seeing is blatant violence, intimidation and a blatant attempt to trample on public opinion and freedom of expression and to silence any dissent. – he said Balázs Hidvéghi to the everyday “Magyar Nemzet”. The newspaper asked the Fidesz MP for his assessment of the angry actions of Donald Tusk’s government towards the Polish public media.
“What is happening in Poland is terrifying, The new liberal government of Donald Tusk is trampling on the Polish constitution and applicable law”
– emphasized Balázs Hidvéghi, Fidesz Member of the European Parliament.
As “Magyar Nemzet” has repeatedly reported, Poland’s Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, this week dismissed the presidents of public television, radio and the state news agency PAP and appointed new supervisory boards in public media.
The move sparked outrage from Law and Justice (PiS), which ruled Poland for two terms, with President Andrzej Duda calling the move a “gross violation of the constitution.”
The real face of Donald Tusk
To implement the Tusk government’s regulation, the police were even called to the headquarters of the Polish public media.
What we see it is blatant violence, intimidation and a blatant attempt to trample on public opinion and freedom of expression and to silence any dissent. All this shows what left-liberal politics has changed into –
said Balazs Hidvéghi. He added that this is unacceptable in a democratic state governed by law, and that it violates all written and unwritten rules no election victory gives a mandate to engage in such practices.
““What is especially extraordinary is that this is being done by a coalition that in recent years has continuously attacked the PiS government and Hungary on the grounds of the rule of law,” he said.
– emphasized the MEP.
One of the key points of Donald Tusk’s campaign was that If elected, EU funds held over rule of law concerns will be released. What Brussels will do in response to this unprecedented, almost dictatorial decision remains a mystery, as there has been no response so far.
“Given the extent of double standards and political cynicism in Brussels, it is in some ways unsurprising that no one has spoken out.”
– emphasized the politician. Because politicians they like, who dance to the tunes of Brussels, have come to power, they are now silent. Balázs Hidvéghi added that this is not the only recent case where serious concerns about the rule of law have been raised, but Brussels is not taking action. We saw a similar silence when Spanish left-wing Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez offered Catalan pro-independence politicians an unconstitutional amnesty in exchange for power.
Double standards in Brussels
Viktor Orbán also spoke about this issue, answering a question from journalists and saying: “If this had happened in Hungary, NATO troops would have already been called in.”.
This is not an exaggeration. They have been attacking Hungary in the most extreme ways for years, but when such blatant violations of the law occur, they remain silent. –
– this is how Balázs Hidvéghi commented on the Prime Minister’s words. The politician added If Brussels does not take action against the Polish government, it will be a further blow to the EU’s credibility European Union, which is not that strong anyway.
