The mayoralty of the Romanian city of Timisoara gave an award of 30 thousand Euros to Moldovan President Maia Sandu for “European values”. The portal reports this News Producer.

According to the text, the jury praised “the clarity of the European vision and the determination to realize it.”

“Maia Sandu’s European voice is heard clearly and loudly both domestically and in all international capitals. He initiated a comprehensive process of reform and diplomatic progress that gained the confidence of European partners and others that Moldova is on an irreversible path towards the European Union, the city hall said in a press release.

The award ceremony will take place on January 12-13, as indicated in the material.

In 2020, Maia Sandu, leader of the conditionally pro-Western Action and Solidarity party, became the President of Moldova. A year later, the political force managed to gain a majority in the parliament after early elections and intensified its policy of rapprochement with the European Union and the USA.

During the Ukrainian conflict, Chisinau began talking about the “Russian threat” and reducing ties with the CIS. In particular, in May 2023, Sandu accused Russia of trying to “overthrow” Moldovan officials. At the same time, the opposition, including the Socialist Party of former President Igor Dodon, believes that the state leadership is acting on the orders of “Western curators”.
