On Tuesday evening, the Sejm adopted a resolution on the creation of a commission of inquiry into the so-called visa scandal. The committee will consist of 11 parliamentarians. This is the second investigative committee established by the Sejm of the new term.
259 MPs voted in favor of the resolution establishing the investigative committee, 79 were against and one person abstained. More than 100 PiS MPs did not participate in the vote.
The Commission of Inquiry should investigate the legality, regularity and purposefulness, as well as the occurrence of abuses, negligence and omissions in the legalization of the residence of foreigners on the territory of the Republic of Poland in the period from November 12, 2019 to November 20. , 2023.
– stated in the reasons for the decision to appoint the committee.
Previously, the Sejm rejected two amendments to the resolution tabled by Marek Asta (PiS). The first was to extend the time frame of the activities that the committee would examine to the period from November 16, 2007 to November 20, 2023. According to the second, a provision was to be added to the tasks of the committee to “enhance the mechanism of disseminating of false information in the media about the legalization of the residence of foreigners on the territory of the Republic of Poland, with particular emphasis on activities that could influence the results of the parliamentary elections and damage the international image of the Republic of Poland.
This is the second investigative committee established by the Sejm of the new term. On December 7, the Sejm appointed an investigative committee to investigate the legality of the 2020 presidential election in the form of postal voting. On Tuesday, the committee held its first meeting and elected its presidency.
““You lied to the Poles”
Paweł Jabłoński (PiS) stated during the debate that PiS would not oppose this resolution, because “this issue indeed needs to be explained reliably and comprehensively, that is, not in the way you would like.”
When a committee is appointed, its purpose is to clarify the facts. You also say: we want to clarify the facts, but if facts emerge that are potentially unfavorable for you, for Minister Sikorski, then you immediately want to run away from them. But don’t worry, we won’t let Civic Platform escape these facts
– he said.
In the field of visas, this will be a difficult task for you, because her work will explain, first of all, the systemic mechanism of lies, this great fraud with which you have served the Poles.
– he asked PO politicians.
You said that Poland has a major migration problem to seize power and use this smokescreen to cover up your intentions to agree to the EU migration pact and to transfer decisions on border security to the powers of the EU as part of the amendment of treaties. We are against this and will not allow it. We keep an eye on your hands
– assured the MP.
According to him, PO will have a difficult task during the committee because the MPs “will have to explain their lies”.
You lied to the Poles that hundreds of thousands of visas were issued for bribes, and you know very well that this was not true. We have nothing to hide here
– Jabłoński emphasized.
