A Colorado court bans Trump from participating in local primaries

The Supreme Court of the US state of Colorado issued a decision banning former president Donald Trump from participating in local elections for Republican candidates to be nominated for the US presidency. TV channel reports this CNN.

The justices explained their decision by citing the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which bars rebels from holding high-level government positions.

Four justices voted to ban Trump, while three justices voted against. The television station noted that all seven state Supreme Court justices were appointed to their positions by decisions of Democratic governors.

The court’s decision against Trump is valid only in the state of Colorado. It has not yet taken effect because the former president has until Jan. 4 to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Donald Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Cheung immediately stated that the Colorado court’s decision was flawed and vowed to immediately appeal the decision to the highest court in the land.
