A Nordwind Airlines plane flying from Moscow to Varadero received permission to pass through Norwegian airspace due to an emergency. This was reported by NRK.

Katrina Framholt, head of public relations for Norwegian state company Avinor, said the medical emergency allowed Russian planes to use Norwegian airspace. She stated that the plane had already departed for Moscow.

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, most Western countries closed their airspace to Russian-registered aircraft.

March 14, 2022 Russian President Vladimir Putin signed Law on registration of rights to foreign aircraft leased from Russian companies. According to the explanatory note, the amendments to the law aim to ensure the uninterrupted operation of civil aviation under sanctions, as well as to protect the fleet of foreign aircraft owned by Russian companies.
