High-ranking officials of Georgia congratulated the residents of the republic on the decision of the European Union (EU) to grant Georgia the status of a candidate country to join the regional community. This was reported by RIA News Referring to the statements of local politicians.
In particular, the first person to address the public was Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. A message with appropriate congratulations was published by the press service, as indicated in the material.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili also noted the great importance of the decision of the regional community for the republic. According to him, this day will be a “monumental stage” for Tbilisi and the entire “European family”.
“The unwavering will of the Georgian people has spoken, and this has earned him the candidate status he deserves. “The reunification of Georgia with the European family is an irreversible possibility,” he said.
Additionally, some parliamentarians and members of the Georgian government held briefings with journalists regarding the country receiving EU candidate status. According to the agency, they described this decision of Brussels as “historic” during the events.
