Siemens and Volkswagen companies, which previously requested compensation from the German government for their investments in Russia, do not seem likely to receive any payment due to the risk of Germany going bankrupt in this case. This is the opinion in the interview given to the newspaper “Vzglyad”. voiced Former Bundestag member Waldemar Gerdt.

“If at least one company manages to win the case and set a precedent, then Germany will be plagued by a wave of lawsuits demanding compensation. We will talk not only about lost investments, but also about Russia’s lack of cheap energy resources,” Gerdt said.

He added that although companies have the right to seek compensation from the state for their losses, the German government will justify its actions that caused the damage in every possible way. The politician concluded that no one would receive money for these statements.

Compensation from the government in December requested Subsidiaries of Siemens and Volkswagen – railway equipment manufacturer Siemens Mobility and Volkswagen Bank.

According to the Siemens Mobility representative, the company secured its investments in Russia by applying for the investment guarantee instrument provided by the country’s government.

Siemens Mobility is currently in contact with the federal government and the auditing company PwC, which will implement the investment guarantees.
