Just a year has passed since the outbreak of the Qatar scandal and the arrest of its heroes: MEPs, EU officials and lobbyists. Documents were leaked to the media exposing massive corruption in the European Parliament, the degree of degeneration of Brussels elites and the mechanisms of ‘conducting’ politics. One of the main suspects is the assistant and lover of former EP Vice-President Eva Kalila.

There are at least several dozen threads in the European Parliament corruption scandal. To describe the networks of connections, mechanisms of bribery, intrigues, conspiracies and heroes of the scandal, you need such a comprehensive work as “The Saga of the Ice People.” Today we will tell you about one special character: Francesco Giorgi, the golden master, lover and assistant of the former Deputy Head of the European Parliament, but still Member of the European Parliament, Eva Kaili.

The Qatari scandal could just as easily be called a Moroccan scandal or a Mauritanian scandal, and some say we should expect an Emirati scandal too – from the United Arab Emirates. In short, it was about lobbyists, former and current Members of the European Parliament, EU officials, for a lot of money – for the time being it was 4.5 million euros – arranging favorable regulations and resolutions for these countries, making suspicious deals, and also organizing for them Brussels propaganda.

One of the main characters is Francesco Giorgi, the son of an Italian businessman, sailor and surfer, who as a young boy started his career in the European Parliament alongside the main suspect in the Antonio Panzeri scandal. This trade union activist and far-left politician from the Italian Socialist Democratic Party was a member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2019. However, five years ago he decided to officially make money with his connections and appointments in Brussels and switched to lobbying. It was he who joined Giorgi in 2009 and became his assistant, as well as an errand boy in the literal sense of the word: he flew around the city and raised money for Panzeri.

It soon became apparent that Panzeri was less interested in the work of an EU legislator, but mainly in arranging affairs and voting for clients from different countries with the help of bribes. Giorgi turned out to be a very smart student. He started with simple things, like collecting bags of valuable money. And someone in the parking lot threw them out of the car at Giorgi’s feet and then invited him inside. The actions were similar to those of our native bribers, but the files do not show whether they were Biedronka bags like ours – money for his master and ‘father’ – that is how he described him in his notes found by the police.

The young, progressive and modern Giorgi helped the old socialist and trade union veteran navigate the world, as he did not know foreign languages, so the golden boy flew to Qatar and Morocco for his errands. He also organized parliamentary ‘soldiers’ – civil servants, aides, members of the European Parliament who voted as Panzeri wished on behalf of the governments that paid him. It is not yet certain whether they also did it for money. Strangely enough, some people miss the research, such as Belgian socialist MEP Maria Arena. The gentlemen often argued about who paid how much and who was entitled to how much bribe.

Bags of money

In 2018, the men began operating at full scale, mainly for Qatar, which became the host of the Football World Cup. A year later, Panzeri officially withdrew from business and did not participate in the parliamentary elections. His contact and internal contact was Giorgi, who in the meantime met the Greek MP Eva Kaili, who was nine years older than him, and became her assistant and lover.

The career of this socialist from PASOK developed brilliantly, so she became Vice President of the European Parliament. This undoubtedly made it easier to do business, because the woman in the position was modern, dynamic, progressive and full of initiative. Therefore, Qatari business in the EU was channeled through it, and more and more bags of money would go there. Kaili testifies that she actually didn’t even know what was in them and simply hid them in a safe in one of the apartments she and Giorgi bought.

On the day of her arrest, when she already knew what was going to happen after the arrest of Panzeri and Giorgi, she hired her father, who was visiting her in Brussels, as a courier and told him to take the suitcases and bags with money to the police had to bring. hotel. The poor old man got so worried and trotted through Brussels with a wave that the banknotes flew out of his bag. Of course the Belgian police arrested him. As we know, a journeyman does not apprentice with a master for free. So Giorgi paid Panzeri £1,500 in cash a month to work for him. It was a bargain because the car had a special discount for diplomats from Qatar: 10,000 PLN. euros cheaper than for any Belgian.

And all this as a bune dune and, since I love God, from a modest salary from the European Parliament, Kaili swore in the police. Officially, the couple earned about 20,000 PLN per month. What do they care that our high-quality, top earner in the European Parliament, Sikorski, who, according to Transparency International EU, comes from the so-called He would receive between 588,000 and 800,000 PLN in a year from external income. euros.

Explosives, Russian tankers and gas

So the poor people had to earn extra money and work hard. And so Giorgi earned another 1,800 euros for renting his nest to the embassy – indeed, the Mauritanian one. The most important thing, however, is Giorgi’s laptop, on which he recorded everything with the precision of an accountant. He could not be wrong about the amount of bribes from whom and for what purpose.

In addition to the international bribery context, the whole story also has other contexts. It shows how corrupt, cynical and corrupt EU society is. What degenerate people must be who want to make money even with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Mouths full of platitudes about human rights and dealing with cruel regimes. They have no brakes. As each thread of the scandal is revealed, more and more information emerges about an attempt to obstruct the investigation and cover up the case. Suffice it to remember that MEPs suspected of bribery and previously arrested are back on the benches of the European Parliament. They belong to their own people.
