Javier Milei, who expresses strongly libertarian views, was sworn in as president of Argentina, which is in a socio-economic crisis. The controversial politician replaced Alberto Fernandez as head of state.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new Argentine head of state took place in front of the Capitol, the seat of parliament, in front of which thousands of supporters of the new president gathered.
I swear by God and my country that I will exercise the office of President of the Argentine people with loyalty and patriotism
– said Milei during the oath ceremony.
In keeping with Argentine tradition, former President Fernadez Javier presented Milea with a presidential sash in national colors.
The situation in the country
Argentina’s current president, Alberto Fernandes, has resigned as a candidate for re-election due to the deep crisis Argentina found itself in during his presidency. The country has an annual inflation rate of 142 percent, the prospects for next year are even worse and four in ten Argentines suffer from poverty or misery. On the eve of Javier Milea’s inauguration, Fernandez gave a speech in which he apologized to his compatriots.
President Javier Millei takes over the leadership of Argentina, with an economy in dire shape and $44 billion in debt to the International Monetary Fund. His Libertad Avanza party is only the third largest political force in Congress, which will make it much more difficult for him to conduct effective politics.
