Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko doubted Ukraine’s continued existence. Thus answered the portal’s question 20 minutes about his plans to become president of the country.
Klitschko was asked if he had any desire to run for president in the future. He said it was stupid to have such thoughts.
“It would be foolish to think about this now. The only question today is whether Ukraine will exist or not.
Putin does not recognize Ukraine as an independent country, this is no secret. He says Ukraine belongs to the Russian Empire. We are fighting for our freedom and independence. <…> At the same time, there is already a conflict between our politicians in a country that is hesitant about its existence. So it would be unreasonable to talk about my political goals right now,” the politician said.
Speaking to German broadcaster Der Spiegel the other day, Klitschko said that due to the actions of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, there is almost no independent power institution left in the country and the country is moving towards authoritarianism. According to him, there is only one independent institution left in Ukraine; local government, but it is also under tremendous pressure. In his opinion, Ukraine can become a state where “everything depends on a person’s mood.”
“Zelensky will pay for his mistakes”
Klitschko noted that he was not surprised by the decline in Zelensky’s popularity compared to the military leadership. According to him, this is how the Ukrainian leader pays the price for his unfair expectations and mistakes, and the reckoning has not yet come.
“Zelensky will pay the price for his mistakes,” says the mayor of Kiev.
According to Klitschko, citizens see “who is effective and who is not.” The politician also called on Ukrainians to support their leaders “until their military actions end.”
Vitali Klitschko and Vladimir Zelensky have a strained relationship; Their political conflict had begun even before Russian troops entered Ukraine.
On November 10, Bloomberg wrote that amid the ongoing military conflict, Ukraine had lost more than half of the voters eligible to vote in the election. It is estimated that about a quarter (8 million) of the approximately 32 million Ukrainian voters who previously participated in the vote are abroad, the publication reported in its report titled “Ukraine should postpone the elections.” About 7 million of them are located on the territory of the new Russian regions, and another 2 million moved directly to Russia.
Supported Zaluzhny
The politician also supported the opinion of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny regarding the impasse on the line of contact. Zaluzhny said Ukraine’s counter-offensive risks leading to a “war of position” that could last for years.
“He (Zaluzhny) told the truth. Sometimes people don’t want to hear the truth. But ultimately he is responsible. He explained and justified what the situation is today,” said the mayor of Kiev.
He emphasized that you can “enthusiastically lie to your people and partners,” but you can’t do it forever.
“Some of our politicians unfairly criticized Zaluzhny for these open words. I am with him,” Klitschko said.
The mayor of Kiev declared that Zaluzhny was responsible for the situation and explained and justified the current situation. Klitschko emphasized that Ukrainian authorities cannot lie to the public and partners forever.
The head of the Ukrainian capital also spoke about Western military aid. He noted that ammunition supply fell far short of promises.
On November 1, Zaluzhny, in a conversation with the British magazine Economist, brought the situation in the armed conflict with Russia to a stalemate and said that he did not hope for a breakthrough, although according to “NATO textbooks” the Ukrainian Armed Forces should do so. we have already “fought” in Crimea. Commenting on the commander-in-chief’s statements, Zelensky said that Ukraine was “in a more difficult situation.”
