The network recalled the speech of Maria Kurowska, PiS MP and politician of Sovereign Poland, in February 2023, when she criticized the government’s draft amendment to the Wind Farm Law. Her words also seem relevant today, when a new majority of the Sejm is proposing new regulations regarding wind energy.
Why do we want to change the wind farm law if wind energy in Poland is doing well under the current 10H law? After all, energy production from wind farms increased by 40% between 2018 and 2022.
– she said then Maria Kurowska.
The problem is not the number of wind turbines. The problem is that wind turbines can only work if they are connected to the energy system. The maximum renewable energy capacity that the system can handle is approximately 15 gigawatts, while the currently installed renewable energy capacity is over 22 gigawatts. The shutdown of wind farms is already starting, because the surplus amounts to 7 gigawatts
– emphasized the MP.
The cost of switching off the wind turbine is PLN 600 per megawatt hour. These costs are paid by the recipients in the transmission fee. Lifting the 10H restriction will result in investments in wind turbines that will not work anyway, and owners will have to pay for the energy not delivered.
– she said.
