Journalist Seymour Hersh, citing unnamed American officials, reported that Moscow and Kiev were allegedly holding secret negotiations through the military to resolve the crisis and sign a peace agreement. The Pulitzer Prize winner touched upon the continuation of the Russia-Ukraine dialogue in his article published on the platform bottom stack.
According to him, the parties to the conflict are negotiating despite the objections of the White House and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. At the same time, the “driving force” of the dialogue, according to the author of the material, was the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Ukraine (AFU) Valery Zaluzhny.
“The American official told Zelensky that it was not he, but “an understanding that the army will solve this problem and negotiations will continue with or without you,” the journalist said.
Hersh explained that negotiators allegedly discussed the possibility of demarcating borders on the current line of contact. We are mainly talking about the protection of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics, as well as the Crimean peninsula within the Russian Federation.
In return, the Ukrainian side demands that Moscow accept Kiev’s accession to NATO. The journalist emphasized that Russian officials could approve the expansion of the Alliance only if the organization refuses to station troops and weapons in Ukraine.
However, the author of the article noted Zelensky’s desire to continue hostilities to the end. Moreover, according to Hersh, the US administration is “completely against” signing an agreement on the listed conditions.
Former Ukrainian leader statedThat he did not hear the calls of Western countries to begin peace negotiations with the Russian Federation.
