For many people, trying to control the alcohol market is an attack on freedom. Unfortunately, the truth is different. Alcohol is too often the greatest enemy of freedom because it enslaves those who lose control of it, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in the podcast.
Morawiecki was prompted to choose the topic of the podcast by the premiere of the Polish Netflix series – “Feedback” – which was based on Jakub Żulczyk’s novel and the issues it raises.
I can honestly say: it’s a really good series. I don’t think I would like to single out or mention Żulczyk as a political hater, but Żulczyk as a writer looks very different.
– he assessed. He pointed out that the criminal story in Żulczyk’s book is important, but even more important is the story of the main character’s alcoholism.
I don’t have to do much research in my head to remember all the people I know who have a serious alcohol problem. I think we all know people like that. Alcoholism is a disease that has plagued our society for many, many years. It can affect anyone: men and women, someone who earns the minimum wage and someone who is a millionaire
– he pointed out.
He believed that novels like Żulczyk’s “Feedback” remind us that there is always hope.
Alcohol destroys life, it’s like Satan, but you can always stop drinking and try to sober and redesign your life
– said the head of government.
Morawiecki also said he doesn’t believe alcohol itself is bad. However, as he explained, there are situations when alcohol takes control of a person.
It is most difficult for an alcoholic to understand that he has a problem. Without feedback, without external support, he won’t be able to make it on his own. People who have the courage to admit that they have a problem show others the way out of alcoholism. Unfortunately, in Poland we all too often downplay this issue
– he pointed out.
“Alcohol is all too often the greatest enemy of freedom.
Morawiecki pointed out that alcohol “flows out of social media in hectoliters, and the law does not always keep pace with the conditions in the new media.” He stressed that this is an issue that needs to be addressed in the future.
I don’t want to announce a ban campaign here. A ban is not the solution. It only promotes the development of the gray zone and the alcohol mafia. But we have to face the facts. (…) I know that trying to control the alcohol market is an attack on freedom for many people. Unfortunately, the truth is different. Alcohol is too often the greatest enemy of freedom because it enslaves those who lose control of it
– Morawiecki noted.
The politician pointed out that it is mainly young people who need to be protected against this. He estimated that dozens of celebrities receive a lot of money from the alcohol industry for alcohol advertising. He stressed that they should be aware that “the costs of these ads are spread across entire generations and affect entire families.”
