The new MEP Włodzimierz Karpiński, who will become a member of the European Parliament directly from his cell, plans to file a complaint with the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg about the actions of the Polish prosecutor’s office. In this way, according to RMF FM, Karpiński is responding to the recently issued announcements in which the prosecutor’s office cites the statement that the former Finance Minister leaving custody will complicate the investigation into the waste scandal in the capital.
Karpiński is going to Strasbourg – not just to the European Parliament
It seems that Włodzimierz Karpiński, who will go to the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg straight from prison (in connection with the waste scandal in the capital’s City Hall), envied former President Lech Wałęsa and will also go to Strasbourg for something other purpose. He plans to file a complaint against the actions of the Public Prosecution Service.
Let us not forget that yesterday the media reported on Lech Wałęsa’s victory at the ECtHR in Strasbourg in the case against the Polish state. In its justification, the Strasbourg Tribunal used language very similar to that of the Polish opposition, which was currently seeking to form a government.

What do Karpiński’s lawyers accuse the prosecutor’s office of?
Meanwhile, Włodzimierz Karpiński believes that the Polish public prosecutor’s office is violating European regulations regarding the presumption of innocence. That is why he plans to file a complaint with the ECtHR in Strasbourg.
He claims that the statements made by investigators after he left custody violate his right to privacy and his right to a fair trial
— reports RMF FM.
In yesterday’s statement, the Public Prosecution Service accused Karpiński of tampering with the investigation. According to investigators, such an example could be the politician’s behavior in early February, when he allegedly lost a phone at the request of the prosecutor’s office. However, Karpiński’s lawyers indicate that the politician was arrested at the end of this month.
He was not allowed to obstruct a procedure in which he was not formally involved. The defense claims that researchers present their assessments as facts and publish material from the research selectively and biasedly
– writes RMF FM, pointing out that a newly appointed MEP has limited opportunities for a fair trial for this reason.
