KO MPs Aleksandra Wiśniewska and Piotr Borys answered a question from wPolsce.pl reporter Maciej Zemła about the deviation from the principle of unanimity in voting in the European Council, as adopted in the draft amendment to the EU treaties. It turns out that there are two voices in KO on this issue.
I suspect this will be necessary for some votes, especially given the expansion of the EU countries. If there are many more of us than now, we cannot afford for individual countries, such as Viktor Orban’s Hungary, which is moving in a clearly authoritarian, hybrid or populist direction, to sabotage other countries at European level. In the event of unanimity, the liberum veto is of course very likely
– she said in an interview with a reporter from wPolsce.pl Aleksandra Wiśniewskawhich supports the deviation from the principle of unanimity in voting in the European Council.
““There is no threat”
Piotr Borys, another interlocutor of Maciej Zemła from KO, presented a completely different opinion on this topic.
We will never agree on unanimity [zapewne poseł się przejęzyczył i chodziło mu o brak zgody na likwidację tej zasady – przyp. red.], this is simply impossible. I think this is a kind of PiS fear about how to smoothly transition to the opposition
– he said Piotr Borys.
There is no danger. The EU is our common interest and whether we will defend our interests effectively depends on our attitude within the EU, and not on sabre-rattling and threats of treaties and the enemy.
– added.
