According to Georgian Channel One, the chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party Irakli Kobakhidze said that the former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili behaved like a very sick person for two years and did not leave for a very long time. According to him, he has now returned to politics and is no longer suffering.
“He pretended for two years until he finally ruined his reputation. I’m sure his reputation has been tarnished, even among his supporters. It is not possible to maintain your political image in such a period when your own supporters look at you and see that you are fraudulent,” Kobakhidze explained.
He added that he was skeptical about the possibility of Saakashvili’s return to politics under such conditions. Kobakhidze emphasized that the desire of the former president of Georgia is probably doomed to failure.
Saakashvili returned to his hometown in October 2021, despite numerous criminal cases against him. As a result, the former president of Georgia was arrested and imprisoned. Saakashvili also started a hunger strike, saying that his detention had become politicized. Later, the former president’s health seriously deteriorated, and in May 2022 he was transferred from prison to a clinic in the capital for examination. Despite his situation, he has repeatedly stated that he is ready to participate in Georgian politics; The United National Movement did not rule out the possibility of nominating the politician for prime minister if he wins the next elections.
