The distribution of parliamentary committees will be sufficient for the distribution of parliamentary seats – assures the secretary of the left club, Dariusz Wieczorek, who is in the negotiating team on the committee, in an interview with PAP. However, he stipulates that the chairmen of the most important committees will form the current majority in the Sejm. The deputy head of the PiS club, Marek Suski, emphasizes in an interview with PAP that the other parties – so far – do not talk to his party about the commission’s mission. “We have 12 committees, but nothing has happened in this matter so far,” he admitted.
Negotiations on parliamentary committees. ‘We don’t want to be like PiS’
The process of appointing parliamentary committees for the Sejm’s tenth term has begun. In the previous term there were 29, but this number may change.
Negotiations are currently underway regarding parliamentary committees for the clubs. Representatives of the Civic Coalition, PSL, Poland 2050 and the Left participate. On Monday, a representative of Law and Justice, the club’s deputy head Marek Suski, is expected to join the talks.
We agreed that by the weekend we should identify specific candidates from individual clubs for the committee. As for the distribution of chairmen, a meeting of all clubs will take place on Monday
— Dariusz Wieczorek, secretary of the left-wing club, who represents his formation in the talks, told PAP.
The distribution, as he said, remains sufficient for the allocation of seats in the Sejm.
There will also be changes because PiS did not adhere to this rule in the previous Sejm government and had more committee chairmen than indicated in the seat distribution.
– he pointed out.
However, Wieczorek assured that PiS will have representatives in all committee presidencies.
We don’t want to be like PiS. We want all committee presidencies to have committee chairs and representatives
– added.
Wieczorek emphasized that the situation is special because the biggest club has never been in opposition before.
These arrangements used to be much simpler. Now it is obvious that the coalition should have its own chairmen in most committees, because it also has a majority in the Sejm.
– he explained. As PAP learned from PiS sources, the formation has twelve chairmen.
Suski: “From parity we have twelve committees”
The deputy head of the PiS club, Marek Suski, emphasizes in an interview with PAP that the other parties – so far – do not talk to his party about the commission’s mission.
We have twelve committees, but nothing has happened in this matter so far
– he admits.
Key committees for the new majority
After another round of discussions, representatives of the groups participating in the negotiations determined which committees were critical to them. Wieczorek mentioned among them: committees for health, finance, justice, economy, climate and environmental protection.
These committees will have chairmen from the majority coalition. There are some that are important to all three parties. Now we need to think about which one we consider most important
– said Wieczorek.
Of course, everything will ultimately depend on whether agreement is reached within the presidency on new committees. At the moment we are working on the compositions and committees that were in the Sejm of the 9th term
– he pointed out.
“You will know the consequences on Monday.”
PSL chairman Krzysztof Paszyk emphasized that the talks took place in a good and constructive atmosphere.
There is interest from various clubs for various committees, but the negotiations remain silent. You will know what the consequences are on Monday
– he said.
When asked about the lack of a PiS representative at the talks, he replied:
Eight years ago, PiS did not invite anyone to participate in the negotiations on the commission. Eight years ago we were excluded from participating in committees. Four years ago, no one came to my club and asked if we wanted to participate in such conversations.
Candidates for specific committees
Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Monika Wielichowska informed PAP that all parliamentary clubs had to present the candidacies of MPs for individual committees by 16 on Friday.
Then, in accordance with regulations, at the request of the Presidium of the Sejm, after obtaining the advice of the Council of Seniors, the Sejm, by way of resolution, selects the composition of individual committees.
– she pointed.
The Deputy Marshal emphasized that each committee would include MPs from each parliamentary club or group.
The size of the club determines the number and parity
– she explained.
During the past term, there were 29 standing committees and one extraordinary committee. Standing committees include: Committee on Administration and Home Affairs; for petitions; for special services; for the European Union; Energy, climate and state assets; Education, Science and Youth; Parliamentary ethics; Public Finance; National Defense; Environmental protection, natural resources and forestry; Social policy and family; Regulations, matters of alternates and immunities; Agriculture and rural development; Territorial self-government and regional policy; Foreign Affairs; Justice and human rights; Legislative or Health.
