The Consell general assembly authorized the conclusion of an agreement between the Department of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism and the Alicante Port Authority for the transfer in favor of the autonomous department of the former warehouses of the Amaro González company. The goal is to use it like this: Educational space for innovation, digital skills and technologies related to artificial intelligence, living laboratories and digital content curators at the service of SMEs and the research community. It will also operate as an advisory center for the development of applications around disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, big data, the internet of things or 5G.
The project was carried out by saving more than 5,000 square meters of abandoned area in an area close to the city. An enclave where researchers can use to train, experiment and get advice on innovative technologies.
The use of the facilities will be for a period of 30 years, which can be extended for up to five years. As long as the ministry continues to need it, provided that their use is as specified in the agreement and is compatible with normal port operations.
The Ministry will pay the amount corresponding to the fee for private occupation of the public area of the port. The annual fee payable for 2023 will be 61,324 euros (rehabilitation or construction costs are not included).
The total amount is expected to be 2,146,340 eurosWithout taking into account the updates planned by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda. In return, the port authority will give 4,623 square meters of Consell land P-10 plus an access street of 780 square meters.
This project is also open to funding from the European Union (European Regional Development Fund Operational Program – Federated Funds).
The project will be added to Distrito Digital’s building next to Panoramis at Pier 5 of the Port of Alicante, which already forms a cluster of innovative companies.
