You have to learn to win and you have to learn to lose. We must learn to work together in parliament, said Sejm Chairman Szymon Hołownia when asked about the Sejm’s rejection of Elżbieta Witek’s (PiS) candidacy for the position of Sejm Deputy Chairman.
On Monday, the Sejm elected as deputy speakers of the House: Monika Wielichowska (KO), Dorota Niedziela (KO), Włodzimierz Czarzasty (New Left), Piotr Zgorzelski (Trzecia Droga) and Krzysztof Bosak (Confederation). However, PiS candidate Elżbieta Witek did not win a majority. 203 MPs voted in favor of her candidacy, 252 voted against and 3 MPs abstained.
CHECK THE DETAILS: REPORT. Session of the Sejm of the 10th term. 460 parliamentarians took the oath. Elżbieta Witek not elected Deputy Speaker of the Sejm!
“Not everyone can be this vice-chairman – according to the House, according to the MPs.
When asked to comment on the fact that Elżbieta Witek did not win a majority and become deputy chairman of the Sejm, Hołownia emphasized that one very important thing had happened: the Sejm had secured seats in the Sejm Presidium for all parliamentary members. clubs in the Sejm.
It’s a good thing that it happened, I’m happy about it
– emphasized the Marshal of the Sejm.
He pointed out that it was the will of the chamber that the PiS candidate would not become deputy marshal.
The thing is that the vice-chairman is the right of the club, but not everyone can or should be vice-chairman – according to the chamber, according to the MPs.
– Hołownia noted.
According to him, such decisions must be respected.
I know that there were many doubts about Mrs Witek’s candidacy for the position of deputy chairman. Ladies and gentlemen, she is a Member of Parliament, the voters trusted her, that is clear, it must be respected, no one doubts it, but when it comes to the position of Deputy Marshal, the Sejm decided today that this position will remain vacant and we will return to this procedure
– said the Chairman of the Sejm.
“It is currently owned by the PiS club.
Hołownia pointed out that if there is a chance that this seat will be filled by someone else, “of course sooner or later we will have such a vote.”
It is currently owned by the PiS club. If he nominates another candidate, the Presidium of the Sejm will decide whether to include it on the agenda of the next meeting or meeting.
– Hołownia noted.
“You have to learn to win and you have to learn to lose.”
Responding to PiS saying that the failure to elect Witek as deputy chairman is a collapse of the rule of law and dictatorship, the Sejm chairman said this accusation was “misplaced”.
This is neither a breakdown of the rule of law nor a dictatorship. They had the right to nominate the candidate they wanted, this right was respected by the chamber, but the chamber decided that this person – in its opinion – was not suitable for the position of vice-chairman. This was decided in a democratic procedure, in a parliamentary majority procedure
– said Hołownia.
According to him, “when the Sejm made decisions that favored PiS, everything was fine, democracy flourished and we were a green dot on the map of the happiest places in the world, and when PiS starts losing votes, it turns out that it is a dictatorship, Belarusian norms and many more stories.”
Ladies and gentlemen, you have to learn to win and you have to learn to lose. We must learn to work together in parliament
– said the Chairman of the Sejm.
I would be happy – and I say this without any irony as President of the Sejm – if the Presidium were actually supplemented with a candidate from PiS, because then we would have the set that this chamber needs. I hope that will happen
– emphasized Hołownia.
